Unpacking...

Still unpacking boxes. It is so hard.
I have albums and albums of pictures and no where to put them! I do not know what I'm going to do with them! :(

Oh, MAS, I wish I was there to help. I have a unique gift: the ability to heartlessly chuck excess. The best part of my gift is that it rubs off on others.

Part of the reason this gift was developed is b/c its a necessity in NYC apts, and b/c I've moved more times than a nomad.

Some advice (heartless as it may be):
- Clever storage solutions are key (anything that goes under, over, behind will work).
- Packaging may be beautiful, but must be pitched (this includes jewel cases & shoe boxes).
- If you haven't looked at it since the last time you've moved you don't need it. Unless it's a family heirloom, pitch it. That includes all of those books Marc was stunned over, especially college books, any kitchen gadgets and clothes.
- If it doesn't serve a purpose, you don't need it.
- If there's the slightest possibility you may want to use something in the future and it's replaceable, but you haven't used it in a while, pitch it. I know, I know that's not very frugal, but we've never actually had to re-buy.

Here we just give everything to goodwill or sell it on craigslist, but for you, I'd say, have a garage sale. Make a little $$ & de-clutter the house.

Oh, and if this is to be a combining of 2 lives, Marc needs to get rid of stuff, too. It's not fair if it only works one way.

I concur! From another nomad, pitch everything you can. Once you get settled there & decide, "you know, it really is too small here for us..." you'll end up moving AGAIN so might as well chuck it now ;) Garage sale, baby. Then goodwill. Have fun with it!

Jen,
Great advice.
I'm not really a keeper, but I still had stuff that I don't need.
